Quotes

  • Actual happiness looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn’t nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand. - Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
  • Education
"Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the stars and the mountains above. Let them look at the waters and the trees and flowers on Earth. Then they will begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education." -David Polis
  • "Above all, do not lose your desire to walk: every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it... but by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one becomes to feeling ill... Thus if one just keeps walking, everything will be all right." -Soren Kierckgaard
  • Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. - Albert Camus
  • How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. Annie Dillard

Gwynneth Beasley

Boys and their gear - I doubt it ever ends!

Nana

Levi,

You look terrific in your new fishing vest. I think you are going to catch many fish with those new flies. There is a radio show I like to listen to on NPR called "Car Talk." Two brothers help people with their car problems, maybe one day you and Silas could have a talk show about "Life on a Lake." You and Si already know so much and are learning more every day.

Nana

Silas,

I was looking at the picture of you and Pop fishing and I just realized that you are using a very large pole. I am so impressed. I can tell you are a very serious fly fisherman.

Michelle

I suspect that you are right about that Gwynneth!

Michelle

Nenny,  I only have one fly so far, but Ill probably catch a bass with it.  Levi

Michelle

Nenny, We listen to Car Talk every Saturday, we like it too.  I would like to teach you how to fly fish someday.  Silas

Nana

Silas, I would love you to teach me because I know you will be a very good teacher. Maybe Opa will buy me a fishing vest of my very own. Levi, the one fly you have may be all you need to catch that big bass. Good luck!
