The requests for more photo's keep coming, so I'll try to take more and I will post them in the newly created Yukon Album (left column). For now, just a few from around Faro.
Below is a panoramic view overlooking Faro and the Tintina Trench. If you want to learn a little about it and see some professional shots of the area (including one taken from this very spot), click here and make sure to click on the Photo Gallery link. The Trench sort of acts like a corridor for wildlife, so is supposed to be an excellent location for viewing animals.
For reference, I've posted a territory map showing locations of Whitehorse, Faro, etc. I've been reading the Bradt travel guide, trying to learn more about the area. In it, I read that the Yukon Territory is roughly the size of California and West Virginia combined, yet it only has a population of 34,000, of whom about 25,000 live in Whitehorse...which leaves a lot of space for just a handful of people. Those attracted are the "independent-minded indivuals with little concern for the superficial trappings of fashion and other forms of consumerism, but a deep love for the expansive lands and wildlife of the north."
While on the topic of Canada and photography, Newfoundland and Labrador have some of the most fantastic images in their tourism commercials. We first watched these on TV in Toronto last year. Our family will visit someday, hopefully we'll even see the Torngat Mountains. Check out some of these incredible commercials on their tourism website; You'll want to visit.
Hey, can anyone recommend a quality, non-DSLR, compact camera? I kinda like the Panasonic LX5 or Canon S95...
