Spring happenings

Si & Levi on their homemade raft, perhaps inspired by the book they are currently reading - Huck Finn.

All of a sudden, Arlo has to walk everywhere, even on a recent trip up Bald Mountain.

Silas & Levi did the hike barefoot, it is their new thing.

The boys have been getting ready for some new "pets" which should be arriving soon.

We have been doing a lot of gardening and also took advantage of some wild food, the many violets blooming all over our yard, which we made into syrup.

We poured about two cups of boiling water over an equal number of violet blossoms and let it steep overnight.  This morning, we strained off the beautiful blue liquid, added the juice from 1/2 a lemon and a lot of sugar and boiled it slowly for about 10 minutes and made a beautiful and tasty topping for our pancakes!

Great photos of all three boys. Si and Levi, you really are Tom and Huck, making your own raft, hiking up Bald Mountain barefoot, catching snakes. In the last photo with the snake, Arlo looks so much like Silas did at that age! I want to try to make the violet blossom syrup but I plan to use it with some vodka!
