We picked up our nucleus colony (or "nuc") of bees on Sunday. We made the 2 hour drive home, with about 10,000 bees riding in the front seat, without incident. There were a few bees that escaped the hive, but they flew right to the car windows looking for a way out and didn't bother anyone.
We've all enjoyed watching the bees explore their new home, but the boys have been impatient to see what is going on inside the hive. Today, they took a quick peek.
We have Carniolian bees, known for their gentle temperment, which seems to be the case with these ladies. They didn't seem very upset at all when their home was opened up and no one was bothered or stung.
Our nuc consisted of 5 full frames and it looks as though the bees are hard at work drawing out comb on the new frames.
Silas & Levi are very excited little beekeepers!
Yuuuummmmmmmm I love honey!
