We raised Freedom Ranger chickens for meat this year, a first for us. The birds are almost 11 weeks old, some were getting pretty big, so we processed a batch today. It wasn't exactly fun, but we all worked together, learned a lot, and now have 13 birds ready for the freezer. We'll let the rest grow for another week.
Holy shite!!!

I know, it is really crazy. But, these boys know where their food comes from. And, as Silas said, this will be a handy skill if they ever become lost in the woods!

Wow, I'm impressed. I know I would have to survive on plant life in the wilderness. I can't believe you do this in front of the other chickens though. :( They know what's coming. Very timely though with all my nutrition classes and really understanding where your food comes from and honoring those who play a role in growing/raising/preparing your food. Animals that lead a good life and who were killed humanely are healthier to eat than all the poor cows and chickens, etc. that are not. Can't wait to visit the farm! Hopefully sooner than later.
