Silas is 12! We spent most of his birthday in the barn, working together to build a coop for his chickens. This boy has really taken to farming. He wakes with the sun and heads outside to take care of the animals. What to give a boy with a love of poultry? More chickens, of course.
Silas added Black Silkie Bearded Bantam chickens - 6 hens and a rooster - to his large flock of fowl.
He also received a chicken harness and leash, and is working with some of the chickens, attempting to train them to wear it. Here is a photo of some chicken training, please note the porcupine in the apple tree above Silas and the chicken:
He took a few breaks to play with LaFawnduh and Piggy Wonky.
We didn't finish the coop, but framed it, hung the door, and started the walls before having a birthday sauna, dinner (chicken pie) and a spiced pumpkin cake. A pretty good day for a 12 year old boy.
Happy Birthday Si!
The photo of Si up on the mountain is beautiful. Is that looking toward the White Mountains? The colors are so vivid. Silas, I absolutely love your new chickens. If I could have chickens, I would have a Black Silkie Bearded Bantam. Sounds like you all had a great day. Happy Birthday again Silas!

looks like the perfect birthday to me! Silas you have always been the chicken whisperer ever since your chicken in Durango came inside to have books read to it! What a beautiful place you all live. didn't realize you had apple trees too!

How funny, we dont even remember a chicken coming in to have books read to it, it must have been Little Silas. Thanks for sharing that memory!
